

Families and friends of those named on the new memorial, veterans and current military personnel were among the 3,000 guests who packed out the stands.

  AS FAR as highs and lows go, Friday had it all. From the excitement of catching a glimpse of the Queen, which for many was the first time they had seen members of the royal family in the flesh, to the overwhelming sense of pain and relief, as years of waiting six decades for some was finally over.
Their brave heroes, which some feared would become the forgotten heroes, have finally been given the recognition they undoubtedly deserve. The sadness of losing a loved one never fades, but the knowledge that their memory will be kept alive will, undoubtedly, offer some comfort and ensure that the rest of us will always remember those who have given and those who, sadly, are yet to give.
